Masahiro Tanaka struck out two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani twice and earned his sixth win of the season as the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 Sunday.
Tanaka fanned eight, scattering three hits over his six solid innings. He just surrendered a home run to Andrelton Simmons in the sixth.
The 29-year-old Tanaka struck out his countryman Ohtani, swinging twice and walked him once. The right-hander improved to 6-2 with his ERA down to 4.62 from 4.95.
Ohtani finished the day 0-for-2 with two walks after Aroldis Champman walked him in the ninth, dropping his batting average to .291.
