Japan’s two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu will again miss the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final due to a right ankle injury, the Japan Skating Federation announced Thursday.
Hanyu twisted his right ankle in a practice at the Rostelcom Cup on Nov. 16. The 23-year-old Japanese star had returned to Japan to undergo medical tests to decide whether he would compete again this year.
A similar injury last year forced Hanyu to miss the 2017 Grand Prix Final, and almost cost him his chance at winning a second Olympic gold at the Winter Games in South Korea in February.
