Football: New GM Keisuke Honda leads Cambodia in practice for 1st time

Japan’s Keisuke Honda has now led Cambodia’s national soccer team in practice for the first time since he became general manager.

«It was a good practice. I want to make progress without rushing things,» Honda said following Tuesday’s practice in the Cambodian capital.

Honda, who signed a two-year contract with the team and also serves as a coach, observed players and took notes while the team warmed-up and did passing drills in match-like situations.

«I still don’t know a lot about each player, so I wrote down how I felt and some of their characteristics,» Honda said. «I don’t have much time, so every day becomes a test. I want to improve the team.»

The 32-year-old, who recently signed with Australian club Melbourne Victory, has said he will mainly contribute to the Cambodia team in an online capacity due to his contractual obligations elsewhere.

Cambodia will play a friendly against Malaysia on Monday.
