Shinzo Abe, Donald Trump to meet before planned U.S.-North Korea summit

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he has agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump to meet before a planned U.S.-North Korea summit.

Abe said after a phone call with Trump that they had agreed to cooperate to make the summit between the U.S. president and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meaningful.

Trump and Kim separately expressed their readiness over the weekend to meet on June 12 in Singapore as originally planned, although the U.S. president had called off the summit on Thursday.
