Sony Corp. has launched the world’s first deep bass concept store in Malaysia as it looks to capitalize on demand for audio products suited to the hip-hop genre that is popular among young people in the country.
Sony recently opened its Extra Bass store, featuring various items such as wireless speakers and headphones, in the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall in Selangor state near Kuala Lumpur, an area dotted with a number of colleges and universities.
“We intend to create a music information hub for college and university students that conveys the best of what the concept store offers, working with schools and communities to get more young people taking part in music and arts,” Sony’s local arm Sony (Malaysia) Sdh. Bhd. said in a statement.
The Japanese electronics and entertainment giant has half of Malaysia’s headphone market, according to the company.
Satoru Arai, managing director of the local arm, said the Southeast Asian country has “a great potential to boost and promote extra bass audio products.”
Sony’s Malaysian arm is releasing a new series of wireless speakers under the Extra Bass brand, following their launch in Japan and Europe earlier this year. (NNA/Kyodo)
