Japan’s Kei Nishikori defeated home favorite Benoit Paire in five sets to reach the thrid round of the French Open on Wednesday.
The 19th seed and world No. 21 Nishikori fought back to defeat the world No. 51 Frenchman 6-3, 2-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrierat.
The 28-year-old Japanese was playing in his first Grand Slam event since last July’s Wimbledon. He missed two tournaments after being sidelined with a season-ending injury sustained in August.
