President Donald Trump has told State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert that he wants to nominate her as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, ABC News reported Thursday, quoting a senior White House official.
It is unclear whether she has accepted the offer to potentially succeed Nikki Haley, who has said she will leave by the end of the year, the report said.
Nauert has been the department spokeswoman since April 2017 after a career as a broadcast journalist at ABC News and an anchor at Fox News. After Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was fired, she was promoted to acting undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs.
