Veteran Japanese TV, film actress Kirin Kiki dies at age 75

Kirin Kiki, a veteran Japanese film and television actress, died at her home on Saturday at age 75.

Kiki recently appeared in «Shoplifters,» which won the prestigious Palme d’Or award at this year’s annual Cannes International Film Festival.

She first became known for her role as a mother in TV drama «Terauchi Kantaro Ikka» (Kantaro Terauchi Family). Her famous works include TV dramas such as «Jikandesuyo» (It’s Time), and films such as «Tokyo Tawa: Okan to Boku to Tokidoki Oton» (Tokyo Tower: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad).

Kiki had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
